The Use of Innovation Configurations to Improve Teacher Preparation in Critical Areas
On Friday, January 16, 2009, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs and the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (TQ Center) hosted a live, interactive webcast titled The Use of Innovation Configurations to Improve Teacher Preparation in Critical Areas.
A recording of the live webcast is available for viewing.
You also can view the slide presentations used by the presenters during the webcast.
Topic Overview
The innovation configurations in these areas are related to improving instruction and outcomes and achieving the long-standing public policy goal of greater integration of students with disabilities in general education classroom settings. COBM principles, for example, are related to improving achievement, classroom productivity, teacher persistence in educational careers, and to preventing behavior disorders. Most existing special education programs address only a part of COBM, primarily reducing disruptive behavior, while focusing on components such as preventive strategies less often. Similarly, specific content on inclusive services strategies and application of learning strategies on content areas is frequently given insufficient emphasis. The webcast emphasized uses of innovation configurations to improve teacher preparation and continuing education.
