
Evaluation and Compensation
Teacher evaluation and compensation represents the process whereby teachers are assessed or evaluated as well as related issues pertaining to compensation, advancement, and leadership opportunities. In the last several years, many components of this process have been challenged and reform efforts have been initiated as a result of some of the following questions:
- What assessment tools are available for the observation, assessment, and evaluation of teachers?
- How should teachers be held accountable for their practice, and in what ways can teachers advance in their careers?
- What considerations should be taken into account when developing alternative pay systems for teachers?
- What is the impact of pay-for-performance programs?
- What are the advantages and drawbacks of the components that comprise these programs?
