Highly Qualified Special Education Teacher Requirements
Special education teacher requirements are in flux across the nation as states grapple with aligning practice and policy to meet the mandates of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004. Due to the recent clarification provided by IDEA 2004, many states have had to precede policy implementation with immediate practice to comply with federal law and deadlines. The Highly Qualified Special Education Teacher Requirements database includes state statute, administrative code, rules, and regulations to provide a more complete and accurate picture of activity surrounding this critically important issue of teacher quality.
NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher and Paraprofessional Database
This is a comprehensive database of state definitions and processes for meeting NCLB highly qualified teacher and paraprofessional requirements, including the high objective uniform state standard of evaluation (HOUSSE) plans.

The state policy databases, compiled by the Education Commission of the States (ECS), provide information about policies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the four U.S. territories. Each database contains information on legislation and state board rules and regulations specific to the following topics:

Interactive Data Tools
The National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality provides interactive data tools for users to generate customized data tables about teacher preparation, teacher recruitment and retention, and teacher certification and licensure. Customized data tables are based on data from the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS).

The TQ Source is the premier source for information on teacher quality and leadership quality. The site provides a multitude of resources pertaining to the career continuum for teachers and leaders—from preparation and certification to recruitment, retention, and advancement.
