Be sure to take a look at the classroom/behavior management resources included on the NCCTQ web page at:

Change in the way one structures the classroom, encourages appropriate behaviors, and responds to inappropriate behaviors requires training, support, and a general belief that it will work. How has professional development in classroom management changed to provide the extended support necessary to implement and sustain a change in classroom management? Can anyone provide any insights as to what they have found to be helpful?

Some teacher prep programs require student teachers to participate in the first two weeks of school (in Auguts) as part of their student teaching experience.  While this causes a big break of time for some (for spring term), at least they get the experience of seeing how the school year kicks off and how teachers set up their classrooms.  Student teachers learn some valuable lessons about establishing environment and relationships early.  What are the drawbacks to this structure?  Why wouldn't all teacher preparation programs adopt this model?
