Equitable Distribution and ARRA

Addressing the issue of equitable teacher distribution requires attention to both (1) increasing the number of teachers applying and available for hire by schools, and (2) establishing a culture of support and development in schools that encourages quality teachers to remain. To aid educators in achieving these goals, the TQ Center has developed the following resources:

Equitable Distribution Workshop

On June 30, 2009, the TQ Center hosted a workshop titled “Addressing Inequities in the Distribution of Highly Qualified and Effective Teachers: A Workshop to Move Research and Policy Into Action.” Workshop resources intended to help states address this issue are available including the workshop summary and the workbook titled Thinking Systemically: Steps for States to Improve Equity in the Distribution of Teachers.

Using ARRA Funds Webcast

On September 30, 2009, the TQ Center hosted the Using ARRA Funds to Improve Teacher Effectiveness and Equitable Distribution webcast. The webcast featured an overview of the online Interactive Mapping Tool and presentations on how states can use the tool to think strategically and systemically about the use of ARRA funds to address teacher quality issues.

Additional Resources

The TQ Center has developed additional resources to help education leaders as they address the equitable distribution of teachers.
